about
It was almost Christmas when I went for a routine mammogram and was asked to stay for an ultra sound because the doctor "saw something he didn't like". I was floored. This wasn't going to be and in-and-out routine kind of day. They still didn't like that ultra sound and had me stay for another. I imagined the worst and mulled the myriad of my possible futures. Chemotherapy? Mastectomy? The end of my world as I know it?
It got me thinking how ironic it would be if I got some devastating news, walk outside to live out my limited time here and got run over by a car. I though, "well this is all borrowed time then isn't it? Every moment is a blessing". My heart hurt for all the women who didn't get as good a diagnosis as I did, and for the people who love them.
The wait for the results that day was the longest wait of my life. I wrote Coming To See You in the waiting room.
lyrics
I found out today
I'm coming to see you soon
But I don't know what I will find
When I stand in your light
And I rest in your hallowed room
I don't know how it will feel
And I don't know how I'll arrive
It could be a car crash
Could be a train wreck
It could be an airplane touching down
I decided today
I'm coming to be with you
But it may not be as they say
Because maybe they'er wrong
Fate is a funny, fickle thing
I don't know how it will feel
And I don't know how I'll arrive
It could be a car crash
Could be a train wreck
It could be a hurricane blowing through town
It could be a car crash
Could be a train wreck
It could be an airplane falling from the sky
Or maybe they'er right, maybe I'm stale
Maybe this body of mine is the final betrayal
Maybe they'll dance, maybe they'll cry
But they'll never know I was secretly smiling...
I don't know how it will feel
And I don't know how I'll arrive
It could be a car crash
Could be a train wreck
It could be a lost lonely soul with a gun
It could be a car crash
Could be a train wreck
It could be an airplane touching down
From the sky
But it'll be you and I
